The Short Answer
An energy recovery ventilator (ERV) exchanges stale indoor air with outdoor air through a core that transfers heat and a portion of moisture. In Florida’s climate, that means you can ventilate a tighter home without inviting as much humidity load as a plain exhaust fan or a cracked window. ERVs are a premium comfort tool when infiltration has been reduced on purpose.
Why tight homes still need fresh air
Cooking, cleaning products, people, and furnishings all add pollutants and moisture indoors. When you seal the accidental leaks, you still need a controlled path for outdoor air — otherwise CO₂ and odors climb and the house feels stale.

Does an ERV replace my air conditioner?
No. An ERV manages fresh-air exchange. Your AC (and often a dehumidifier) still handles cooling and most of the moisture load. They work as a system.
Can I just open windows instead?
You can, but Florida outdoor air is often hotter and more humid than you want indoors. An ERV gives measured ventilation with less comfort penalty — especially in peak season.
